Baseball Goes to War
Published in Paperback by Farragut Pub Co (October, 1985)
Average review score:

A GOOD READTHIS BOOK IS AN EXCELLENT LOOK AT THE WWII ERA. ALOT OF GREAT INTERVIEWS AND STORY TELLING DESCRIBE THIS HISTORIC ERA IN GREAT DETAIL. IT LIKE BEING THERE. MR. MEAD DOES A FINE JOB AND THIS IS TRULY AN EXCELLENT BOOK FOR HISTORIANS AND FANS OF THE GREAT AMERICAN SPORT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
A splendid account of Baseball in the FortiesWilliam Mead's wonderful book about a baseball in the 1940's has appeared under several titles (EVEN THE BROWNS, BASEBALL'S WORST DECADE). In each guise it is a sprightly written and judicious account of the personalities (Judge Landis, Pete Gray) and events of baseball in a time of national crisis.

The Baseball Trivia Quiz Book
Published in Paperback by Sterling Publishing (June, 2000)
Average review score:

Just a walk in the park with Wild Thing !I really enjoyed reading the questions and stories that Dave Brown used in this book. I aleays knew Mitch Williams was a fun and exciting baseball pitcher, but I had no idea how entertaining and funny his stories could be. I am so glad he decided to share some of the stories about his baseball days in this book. Using the format of Q&A, was ingenious and very, very entertaining! Thanks Mr Brown for the idea, and THANK YOU Mitchell, for another wild time ! Love ya forever !!!!!!
A must have for all baseball enthusiasts!Trivia at its best is challenging, informative and fun. This book is all three. The Baseball Triva Book is challenging enough for the most hardcore baseball trivialists yet has plenty of questions that "Joe Fan"(like myself) can answer and find challenging. 200 hundred questions - multiple choice, matching and my favorite "Who am I?". Here the authors describe a player through career highlights and lowlights and asks the reader to identify him. I was truely disappointed when I reached the end this trivia book. A must have for all fans and for under six bucks it's a no brainer!

Baseball's Fabulous Montreal Royals
Published in Paperback by Robert Davies Pub (January, 1996)
Average review score:

Great baseball historyWilliam Brown's history of the Montreal Royals is a must read for anyone with a love of baseball. I had been searching for information on the story of this organization since my father told me about the Royals that he followed growing up 6 blocks from Delormier Downs in Montreal's East End in the 40's and 50's.
Mr. Brown's tells the history of professional baseball in Montreal from its beginnings in the 1890's up until the Royals demise in 1960. As the #1 farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers many future stars passed through Montreal on their way to the major leagues including Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella and Duke Snider to name a few and William Brown has told their story from a fans perspective. The book includes numerous photos drawn from his personal collection in addition to the archival sources. I highly recommend this facinating bit of baseball history.

Brown's History of the Royals Hits a Home RunThe city of Montreal is famous for more than the Canadiens hockey team and smoked meat: in 1946 the city was home to Jackie Robinson while he played for the city's International League club, the Royals. William Brown's book covers the history of the Royals from their early Eastern League years in the 1890s through to their end in 1960. While typical of the popular-history genre, the book is exceptionally well researched and informative.
Brown's story of the Royals is enhanced by photographs of the long-gone Atwater Park and Delorimier Downs stadiums that hosted the team. His story is further enhanced by the insights of people who saw or partook in Royals games.
Ken Singleton's foreword underlines Robinson as the central figure not only to this book, but the history of blacks in baseball. Understandably, then, Robinson's exploits as a Royal are central to the book: he graces the cover and merits an entire chapter of his own.
Readers will note with intrigue the number of other baseball legends who passed through Montreal as part of the Royals: Managers George Stallings, Ed Barrow, Rabbit Maranville; and players Robinson, Roy Campanella, Don Newcombe, Tommy Lassorda; even Roberto Clemente suited up for the team. The book is a light read sure to entertain baseball fans young and old alike. It is well worth buying.

Be My Valentine Charlie Brown
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (December, 1996)
Average review score:

Same as alwaysPretty much the same as the special,(except for the Pawpet Show),
Charlie Brown waits for valentines with pie in the sky hopes. Snoopy makes a music box out of paper, while Sally makes a diamond and a club, and Charlie Brown watches his "something that is very nice" fall apart.

anonymous ...This book was really funny. Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy are probably the best charaters.

Better Bones, Better Body : Beyond Estrogen and Calcium
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (01 April, 2000)
Average review score:

Full of HopeI felt pretty "down" after receiving a diagnosis of osteoporosis. After reading this book from cover to cover I realize all the things I should have been doing--and not doing. I liked the clear explanations about supplements, alkaline diet, and weight bearing exercise. I'm following the directions, and I'm full of hope. Also I'm ordering four more copies to give to my daughters and daughters-in-law. I want them to avoid that dreaded diagnosis.

Better Bones, Better Body: Beyond Estrogen and CalciumDr. Susan Brown is an anthropologist who notes dietary and lifestyle differences in Western countries, which exhibit widespread osteoporosis, and Asian countries, where this disease and various problems (including menopausal discomforts) seem rare. She emphasizes that osteoporosis is not a normal aging process nor a strictly female malady. She explains that the building and breakdown of bone is a continual process intimately related to many body processes. She lucidly details the mechanisms of this "bone remodeling." She discusses risk factors for osteoporosis: heredity, body type, sedentary lifestyle, SAD (Standard American Diet), endocrine imbalances, and hormonal disturbances (abetted by tubal ligation, hysterectomy, ovarectomy). Brown notes early signs of trouble in small items like weak fingernails, irregular periods, excessive plaque formation, leg cramps at night, lower back pain. She advocates various modalities to reverse osteoporosis by whole body approaches involving maximizing nutrient intake, strenghtening the disgestive system, and developing an alkaline diet. She cites specific studies on progesterone (Dr. John Lee) and nutritional supplements (Dr. Guy Abraham) and exercise (Dr. Dalsky). This book is clear enough for the layman with ample references for the professional. The book gives you insight to what is happening inside your body and how you can take steps to stop or reverse osteoporosis. Dr. Brown's "whole body balance" approach will have you stepping out, enjoying veggies, and learning about soy and progesterone on the way to stronger bones.

BETTY SHABAZZ : A SISTERFRIENDS TRIBUTE IN WORDS AND PICTURES
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (July, 1998)
Average review score:

Want a powerful beautiful book? Read this one.I knew of Betty Shabazz, but this book helped me know her like never before. Dynamic woman of God. Powerful, strong, funny, sassy and cool. This book made me want to be a better person because she gave me such a wonderful example to exceed. Just an awesome read.
sister bettyIt's truly a shame that Betty Shabazz was blacklisted after and even before the death of her husband Malcolm X. Her life is one of triumph and tradegy. This book gave insight into a true American heroine. She is definitely one of my heros. Thanks to all the "Sisterfriends" who contributed.

The Bible Speaks to You

Read IT!This book makes sense. Read it.
We read this book on the recommendation of our pastor, a one-time student of Dr. Brown's.
Whether you are strong in faith, new to the "language" of the Christian church, or just wanting to learn, The Bible Speaks to You "speaks to you" in a way that makes sense.
Highly recommended.
Great book for anyone that does and doesn't know the Bible. This book talks about theological aspects of the Bible. It helps explain the Bible to uninformed readers and it also adds a lot of depth to the seasoned Biblical reader.
